Funding Available for ONE-TIME Emergency Rent & Utility Assistance

First In Families of Mecklenburg County, a project of InReach is the referring agent for the following grants:

Speedway Children’s Charity Grant: $17,000.00 (age-restricted grant)

For children, 0 months to 18 years with an intellectual/developmental disability (i.e., Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, etc.) dwelling in a home experiencing a housing eviction, past due rent, past due utility bill, or disconnected utility services needing ONE-TIME emergency reliefThere will be NO reimbursement for past due bills that were paid.

  1. Must live in Mecklenburg County and show proof of residency (i.e., photo ID or current utility bill or signed lease agreement)
  2. Must show proof of all household  income (not exceeding $65,000.00) (i.e., current pay stubs and/or SSI award letter and/or current tax return)
  3. Must show proof of intellectual/developmental disability or delay (i.e., psychological evaluation for kids 4 and up; ISP or Medical Records for kids 0months – 3 years)
  4. Must complete a First In Families application and provide all supportive documents. All documentation is to be faxed, mailed, or hand delivered. NO EMAIL APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED.

  2. New applicants or applicants that have not received emergency assistance from First In Families in the past are preferred.

St. Gabriel Catholic Church Grant: $13,000.00

The grant is for individuals with an intellectual/developmental disability (i.e., Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, etc.) dwelling in a home experiencing a housing eviction, past due rent, past due utility bill, or disconnected utility services needing ONE-TIME emergency reliefThere will be NO reimbursement for past due bills that were paid.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

First In Families will review all applications prior to sending information to the grant administrator. All incomplete applications will be returned. Please wait 5 to 7 business days after submitting the application to receive a determination. Please note, First In Families is NOT an emergency/crisis assistance center. However, First In Families can offer referral services to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their family members to outside agencies that may be able to assist those experiencing an unexpected or unusual life event.
