The ADA: Making it Work

Employer Resource Workshop

Tuesday, July 26, 2016
8:00 am – 10:30 am
Meredith College – Wainwright Suites
Sponsored by: The Raleigh Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities and the Raleigh Wake Human
Registration (This link is no longer active.)

The tools learned in this workshop are essential for HR professionals who are responsible for developing policies as well as Employment Relations professionals. Twenty-six years after the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, many employers are still trying to understand how to address its real meaning. With 57 million people (or 19% of the population) with a disability, employers are missing an opportunity to employ a viable group if they do not actively recruit and retain these individuals. The legal ramifications are also important. Because of the lack of interactive communication, ADA claims are becoming more common. Tom Colclough, Deputy District Director of the EEOC, will give you specific pointers on how to avoid lawsuits or how to address claims you may encounter.

Learning Outcomes: Participants will leave with a much greater understanding of strategies to immediately implement in addressing legal issues.

1) Distinguish the real issues of the ADA (twenty-six years after its implementation).
2) Identifying the connection between the ADA and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act.
3) Develop strategies to prevent systemic claims against your organization.
4) Create an approach for the challenges your organization may face in the future.

No charge to employers!
