Easter Seals UCP Announces Assistive Technology Grant

Easter Seals UCP NC & VA, Inc. is pleased to announce funding –soon to be available- through a grant from NCDHHS- to promote Healthy Living through the use of: Assistive Technology, Smart Technology, and/or Durable Medical Equipment. Residents of NC who are disabled and striving for greater amounts of independence or improved health in their homes and communities may be eligible to apply.

Some Important points to keep in mind:

• This grant is designed to assist individuals who have limited financial resources, and no other funding for the items requested. If the applicant is eligible to receive equipment through another source such as Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance, Children's Special Health Services, etc., they will not be eligible for this grant, and Easter Seals UCP cannot serve them. The applicant may be asked to show proof that Medicare, etc. will not help with the request. This program cannot make co-payments on the applicant's behalf. At no time, can we assist with items exceeding $10,000

• No equipment can be purchased until program funds are available. This grant could be delayed, reduced, or eliminated at any time, and this would cut or eliminate funds for equipment purchase. A waiting list will be maintained for possible future funding.

• Requests for hearing aids, vans, vehicles, van lifts, or iPads (unless iPad is strongly recommended by a therapist or ATP) are ineligible for funding. The grant funds also do not cover insurance co-pays, equipment already purchased, building modifications, or labor costs for items requiring installation or repair such as permanent ramps. All items must be for the individual/applicant, not an organization.

• The medical data section on the first page of the application must be filled out by the applicant's Physician, Therapist, Clinician, or Assistive Technology Professional (A.T.P.) only (not by the vendor). All applications must include either additional independent evaluation(s) or prescriptions which are pertinent to the request.
