NCCDD is hiring a Part-Time Bicultural, Bilingual (Spanish/English) Community Health Worker

NCCDD is hiring Hispanic Latina/o/x Community Health Worker -- Temporary Solutions to support the Council’s work to develop relationships and connections between NCCDD Staff and Council Members and Hispanic or Latina/o/x individuals with I/DD, family members, and stakeholders.  

The position is part-time, and the Council is seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) bicultural contractor, who speaks fluent Spanish and English, and who has work experience and/or personal experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).  

The contractor will work with the Council to do community health work as outlined on the website, and due to the nature of Temporary Solutions work with NC DHHS, the individual will work 11 out of 12 months/Year. The person in this position will primarily perform their duties remotely throughout North Carolina.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $ 33.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application)

Average hours per work week: 24 

This Part-Time, temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services Council on Developmental Disabilities Division.

The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities (NCCDD) is seeking a part-time bilingual (Spanish/English) bicultural contractor, who speaks fluent Spanish and English, and who has work experience and/or personal experience with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).  The contractor will work with the Council to do community health work as outlined below, and due to the nature of Temporary Solutions work with NC DHHS, the individual will work 11 out of 12 months/Year. The Person in this position will primarily perform their duties remotely throughout the State of North Carolina. 

Up to $5,000 per year also will be available, with approval of NCCDD, for travel, conferences, materials, flyers, documents, speaker fees, translations, interpretation, quarterly meetings, and related expenses to further the work of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities of Contractor:

The duties of the contractor will be as follows:

  • Conduct regular outreach, meetings, and education events with individuals with I/DD, family members, and stakeholders in Hispanic and Latina/o/x communities in North Carolina.
  • Provide information, presentations, outreach, and connections to support individuals with I/DD, family members, and stakeholders in Hispanic and Latina/o/x communities in North Carolina to have up-to-date information on vaccines, the COVID-19 pandemic and to prepare for future public health emergencies.
  • Develop relationships and connections between NCCDD Staff and Council Members and Hispanic or Latina/o/x individuals with I/DD, family members, and stakeholders.  
  • Support Hispanic and Latina/o/x individuals with I/DD and family members to educate NCCDD and state leaders on the needs and concerns of their communities and to be leaders in the I/DD community.
  • Work with NCCDD to recruit Hispanic and Latina/o/x Individuals with I/DD and Family Members to apply to join the Council, participate in Council activities and initiatives, and be part of state and local boards and commissions.
  • Support NCCDD and its initiative partners in ensuring that communications, events, and initiatives are culturally and linguistically relevant to and responsive to Hispanic or Latina/o/x Individuals with I/DD and Families.  This would include regular participation in events and meetings held by NCCDD and its initiative partners.  It would also involve supporting outreach to increase attendance. 
  • Regularly attend and actively participate in weekly Friday morning Systems Change Manager Meetings "virtual or in person" and monthly Policy Education Meetings. Zoom/Teams will be used to conduct Staff meetings to the greatest extent to foster Teamwork 
  • Regularly attend and actively participate in and support Quarterly Council Meetings.
  • Collect necessary data as needed.
  • Provide monthly reports of work completed and other reports as needed.
  • Other related community health work as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Competencies

  • Demonstrated Relationships and Connections to Hispanic and Latina/o/x individuals with I/DD, families, and stakeholders.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, in both written and spoken languages.
  • Ability to do outreach, education, and presentations.
  • Work or personal experience with individuals with I/DD.
  • Knowledge of relevant and vital issues impacting the I/DD Community and Hispanic and Latina/o/x Communities.
  • Ability to develop connections and relationships between NCCDD Initiatives and Hispanic and Latina/o/x American individuals and families with I/DD.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience; or

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
