2024 Public Policy Priorities
The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities' public policy efforts are to promote public policy information that educates and informs the people we serve and key decision-makers. We support policies that encourage the integration between people with developmental disabilities, those who support them, and the community.
The Council's resources, vision, values, goals, and mission create a solid platform that continues to educate and inform policymakers, decision-makers at the state and federal levels, and the community-at-large on issues that impact the I/DD community. It is a platform that fosters change in service provision, reflects the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities, and promotes public awareness.
2024 Public Policy Priorities
The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities has set its 2024 policy priorities. They are to:
Eliminate the Innovations Waiver waiting list (Registry of Unmet Needs)
Eliminating the waiting list within eight (8) years and meet the needs for everyone on the 16,000-person waiting list.
Increase DSP compensation
Increasing DSP Rates to a minimum of $18.00 per hour in order to ensure a sufficient direct care workforce.
Increase integrated, affordable and accessible housing options
Expanding integrated, affordable and accessible housing options for people with I/DD in North Carolina
Increase competitive integrated employment (CIE)
Increasing competitive integrated employment (CIE) opportunities for all individuals with I/DD in North Carolina
Increase access to I/DD home and community-based services.
Improving access to I/DD home and community-based services through the successful implementation of the Tailored Plans, care management and 1915i.
