Spectrum News – The Accessible Icon Project

NCCDD hosted The Accessible Icon Project at their offices on March 30 to celebrate DD Awareness Month.

The community gathered in Raleigh for a painting project Saturday. They created a new accessible icon for the handicapped accessible parking spaces. You will see the icons at the office for the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities. The purpose of these new icons is to help people get engaged with a symbol focusing on a person with disability. The new icon conveys motion – conveying the idea that people with disabilities are active participants in the community. It was part of the final day of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. It is celebrated every March. Organizers hope the new logo brings pride to people with disabilities.
