MEDIA ADVISORY

July 19, 2017 (Raleigh, NC) – Sassafras All Children’s Playground at Laurel Hills Community Park in Raleigh, NC will host Play in The Park! on Sunday, July 23 at 10 AM to showcase the inclusive playground that provides accessibility for the disability community.

The event also celebrates the Americans with Disabilities Act’s 27th anniversary. The bill was signed into law on July 26, 1990, and promotes inclusion, integration and equal opportunity for people with disabilities.

Who and What: Sassafras All Children’s Playground and North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities (NCCDD) to host Play in The Park!

When: Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 10

Where: Sassafras All Children’s Playground at Laurel Hills Community Park, 3808 Edwards Mill Rd, Raleigh, NC 27612

Why: Sassafras All Children’s Playground is designed to be a place where kids of all abilities can play together – promoting inclusion and integration for all members, with and without disabilities, of the Raleigh community.

The playground features rubberized surfaces that make it easy for kids in wheelchairs and walkers to move around. Special swings and a zip line are designed for kids who need more upper body support. A roller table allows kids, who can't hang from monkey bars, to push themselves across instead.

Photo opportunities: Families and children with and without disabilities playing in the park.

Interview opportunities:
Chris Egan, Executive Director, North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities
Ginny Moorfield, parent of a child with a disability

Media Contact: Devika Rao, 404-374-5231 or Jennifer Bosk, 919.599.6562
