Executive Committee Minutes, March 2022

Members Present: Bryan Dooley (Chair), Aldea LaParr, Charlrean Mapson, Cheryl Powell, Ryan Rotundo, Marjorie Serralles-Russell, Donna Spears
Members Absent: None
Staff Present: Pam Hunter Dempsey, Chris Hendricks, David Ingram, La’Quadia Smith, Melissa Swartz, Talley Wells, Tamira White, Shar’ron Williams, Philip Woodward, Letha Young
Guests/Council members Present: None

I.     Call to Order
Bryan Dooley called the meeting to order and welcomed the members calling in.

II.     Approval of Minutes
The draft minutes for the February 21, 2022 Executive Committee meetings were reviewed and considered for approval.
MOTION: Aldea LaParr made a motion to approve the draft minutes for the February 21, 2022 Executive Committee meetings. Marjorie Serralles-Russell seconded the motion. The motion was passed with unanimous vote.

III.   ED Update – The following were discussed:

A. Council Membership Recommendations

B. Individual with I/DD

MOTION: Bryan Dooley made a motion for NCCDD to recommend to NC Boards and Commission that Jonathan D’Angelo serve on NCCDD in the role of an Individual with IDD. Ryan Rotundo seconded the motion. The motion passed with unanimous vote.

C. Family member of someone currently in an institution

MOTION: Donna Spears made a motion for NCCDD to recommend to NC Boards and Commissions that Carol Ann Conway serve on NCCDD in the role of Family Member of an Individual with I/DD in Institution. Ryan Rotundo seconded the motion. The motion was approved with unanimous vote

D. Family member of someone with I/DD

    • This position is tabled until the April meeting to recruit additional candidates

E. DD Awareness month – Upcoming film showing

F. Programming for the May Council Meeting in Asheville

G. Latin-X Update

IV.     Financial Report and Expenses/Match Update

Shar’ron reviewed the financial reports for the NCCDD.

V.      Council Meeting/Member Survey Review

David Ingram led the review of the draft agenda for the May 2022 Council Meeting.

VI.     Conference Funding Requests

  • Arts Access’ Annual Series of Fortunate Events (SOFE)
    MOTION: Cheryl Powell made a motion to approve the Conference Funding Request from Arts Access in the amount of $1,500 to support Judy Heumann speaking during their 5/14/2022 Series of Fortunate Events – event. Donna Spears seconded the motion. The motion approved with majority vote.
  • NC Black Disabilities Network Inaugural Conference
    MOTION: Donna Spears made a motion to approve the Conference Funding Request from North Carolina Black Disabilities Network in the amount of $3000 to support Britney Wilson speaking and increase accommodations available during their 4/29/2022-4/30/2022 North Carolina Black Disability Network Inaugural Conference. Cheryl Powell seconded the motion. The motion passed with unanimous vote.

VII.    Ad Hoc Committees/Updates

No Ad Hoc Committee updates occurred.

VIII.   Adjourn

Bryan asked for a motion to adjourn.
MOTION: Aldea LaParr made a motion to adjourn the EC meeting. Ryan Rotundo seconded the motion. The motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 12:30 PM.
