As an often underserved population, health promotion is even more imperative for people with IDD when living in turbulent communities during a pandemic. This presentation will provide an overview on issues related to improving health care and health outcomes for people with IDD. The impact of health promotion and primary health care services as funded services for people with IDD will be discussed. Strategies to include people with IDD within public health systems to address determinants of their health, such as, supportive environment, access to information, life skills and opportunities for making healthy choices) will be reviewed to mitigate communicable and non-communicable diseases and other threats.
