MFP lowers medicaid costs to state with community settings, says program director
Trish Farnham, program director for MFP in the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, reports that they have been monitoring the demonstration project’s progress carefully.
While making it financially possible for qualifying individuals to move to community settings, the cost to the state for their support has gone down. Preliminary data suggests that the Medicaid funds required to support people with intellectual disabilities is reduced by 30 percent, while the costs for the people with physical disabilities and older adults in the program, drop by 27 percent.
